1948 - 2018

Gerald W. “Jerry” “Tip” Tipton, age 70 of Toledo, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 19, 1948 to Thomas and Lola (Balasz) Tipton in Toledo. Jerry graduated from Waite High School in 1966. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam. Jerry retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 42 years. He was a member of VFW Post 4906 serving as Post Commander for the last 2 years. Jerry enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, playing cards, going to the casino and was an avid Detroit sports fan. He was also a staunch fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Jerry loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jane (Snively) Tipton; mother, Lola Tipton; children, Ken (Lana) Tipton, Craig (Heather) Tipton, Tara (David Ewing) Alexander, Troy Tipton, Rick (Kim) Lauch, Jackie Schutt and Tricia (Roger) Bacon; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; brothers, Tom and Dick (Deanna) Tipton; and many dear friends.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the American Cancer Society.
