William (Bill) H. Ward, age 75, of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Ebied Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was a loving husband, father, and friend, but perhaps most importantly, he was the best Papa one could ever ask for.
Born on October 11, 1950, to Nelson and Neva Ward, Bill grew up in Toledo’s cherished “Point Place,” where he discovered his unyielding love for the water. Many fond memories were formed while boating, fishing, and hunting, alongside his loyal dog, Carly. Yet, the greatest love of his life was reserved for his wife and family. His unique humor and spirited personality were known to either send people running or bring them to laughter, a testament to the vibrant life he led.
Bill graduated from Calvin M. Woodward High School, where his journey took a pivotal turn as he met Karen, the love of his life. Their love blossomed, leading to their marriage on January 15, 1970, in Toledo, Ohio. Together, they brought three beautiful daughters into the world: Shawnna (Chris), Bille (Scott), and Koreana (David). Each of them held a special place in his heart, as did his beloved grandsons: Christopher (Samantha) Easton, Brent (Kate) Easton, Joe (Alana) Worden, David Marsh, Ryan Marsh, Scottie (Ashley) Koback, and Mathew (Allison) Koback.
Bill dedicated a portion of his life to his career, beginning at the Dana Corporation and later honing his skills at Chrysler Jeep, from which he retired in 2005. His work ethic mirrored the dedication he showed in every aspect of his life.
His family will continue to carry forward his legacy of warmth, laughter, and love. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Karen (Hall) Ward, and his three daughters, who will forever cherish their memories with him. He proudly embraced the title of “Papa,” relishing the joy that his great-grandchildren brought into his life—Lorelai, Avery, Zander, Beckett, Aurora, Sloane, Mila, Sofia, Lydia, Penelope, and Kyleigh.
He is also survived by his sister, Darlene Grycza, along with his nephew Jeff (Jennifer) Grycza and nieces Gerri (Keith) Pluse and Terri (Amanda) Grycza. Although he was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Ward, and his mother, Neva Ward, who now embrace him in peace, Bill's spirit will continue to shine brightly through the love of his family and friends.
The world has lost a remarkable man, yet those who knew him were blessed by the gift of his love and laughter. A visitation will be held on December 22, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Bill will then be laid to rest at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, where his spirit will forever be free, just as he always loved the water.
