William “Bill” Joseph, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on November 14, 1945, in Fostoria, Ohio, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and the many passions that brought him joy.
Bill was a proud graduate of Tiffin University, launching a career as an accountant that spanned many years. His strong work ethic and attention to detail left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Even after retirement, Bill found ways to stay active and engaged, working for various temp agencies and serving his community as a beloved school crossing guard.
A patriot at heart, Bill served his country with pride in the U.S. Army, and was stationed overseas in Italy during the Vietnam War, while his two brothers were already serving in Vietnam. His commitment to duty exemplified the values he held dear for a lifetime.
Throughout his life, Bill’s interests painted a portrait of a man who found happiness in simple pleasures. He loved fishing and the outdoors, where the peace and beauty of nature matched his gentle spirit. An enthusiastic sports fan, he cheered for all the Cleveland teams through triumph and challenge alike. Bill also had a true appreciation for cars and took great pride in caring for his yard and flower beds, especially in his younger years. His friendships meant a great deal to him, and he cherished every opportunity to gather with friends, share stories, and enjoy their company.
Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Deborah Ferrel-Joseph, whose love and partnership remained the cornerstone of his life. He was the loving father of Rachelle Varnes and her husband Mark, and the admired grandfather of Kristin Boraggina and her spouse Alex, as well as Sean Varnes. Bill’s legacy also lives on in his great-grandchildren: Rhett, Daxton, and Sutton Boraggina. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carolyn Gretzinger. Each of them benefited from his boundless affection, steadfast support, and the lighthearted humor he brought to every gathering.
Bill is preceded in death by his brothers, Tom and Jim Joseph, whose memories remained close to his heart.
To those who knew him, Bill was a kind and gentle soul, fun to be around and always ready with a witty remark. His genuine nature, warmth, and easy laughter made him a cherished friend to many. Above all, it was his love for his family, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that will be remembered as his proudest accomplishment and enduring legacy.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, dedication, and devotion, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
