William Hughes 94 of Maumee, Ohio passed away March 1, 2026 at Elizabeth Scott Care Center. Born February 14, 1932 in Belfast, N. Ireland to Samuel and Mildred Hughes the youngest of three children, brother Jack and sister Carolyn.

Bill came to the USA in 1944, and was a graduate of Maumee High School and Denison University. He served in the U.S. Army and entered on a career in radio as an air personality. He worked at stations in Toledo OH, Hartford CT, and Jacksonville FL.

Bill was an active Big Brother for 25 years. Involved in community activity he served as president of Big Brothers of NW Ohio, United Central Services, and Rescue-Crisis Services. He chaired an allocations committee of the United Way and a committee of the Lucas County Mental Health Board. Bill founded and coached an amateur boxing gym and served as president of Toledo Golden Gloves Association and chairman of Junior Olympic Boxing for Ohio.

He is survived by his son Michael (Mary) Stinson, niece Vicki Lewis, and nephew Kevyn Claerhout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack and sister Carolyn. At Bill's request, funeral services will be private.
