William (Bill) Michael Heban, Age 70, of Rossford, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born on February 13, 1955, to Robert and Lucille (Proch) Heban in Oregon, Ohio. Bill was a 1973 graduate of Rossford High School and was a talented basketball player and golfer. He attended Bowling Green State University, where he studied Biology and Psychology. Bill spent his career as a Distribution Center Manager for Ace Hardware Corporation for 31 years and later served as an Inventory Control Manager for Signature Harley Davidson in Perrysburg.
Bill was devoted to his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Sandy (Boris) Heban, for over 50 years. Bill was most proud of his four children and granddaughter, Avery. He actively coached and participated in his children’s athletic and extracurricular events.
Bill was jokingly a self-proclaimed “advanced amateur” photographer, though others who loved his work would agree that he was anything but amateur. He was a lifelong wildlife lover and longtime photographer, specializing in native fauna and flora of the Midwest. His stunning work has won numerous awards and has been featured in many publications. Bill could often be found at all the local Toledo area Metroparks and marshes. His Rossford Backyard was his self-built sanctuary that he tended to for over 40 years. Many of his incredible photos were taken “From our Rossford Backyard”.
Through the years, Bill loved spending time on the water with family and friends, fishing, boating and camping. He was affiliated with the Rossford Bulldog Bass Club and loved fishing with his best friend and fishing partner, Mark Schumacher. Bill and Sandy cherished their yearly trips to Northern Michigan for over 25 years as well as spending time in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy (Boris) Heban, and children: Brian, Nicole (William), Christopher (Stacy Donley), Dr. Kelly (Joshua) Bugg; grandchild, Avery; step grandchildren, Syd and Tori; and step great-grandchild, Jackson. Also surviving are brother Terry (Diane) Heban, sister Linda (Joe) Heban, in laws, Cheryl Knorek, Debbie (Gary) Krall, Rocky (Debbie) Boris, Ken (Marsha) Boris, Jamie Boris, Tambra Baskin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille (Proch) Heban; mother and father-in-law, Steve and Amelia Boris; in laws, Nate andMarlene Cassabon, Dan Knorek, and Kevin (Kooch) Boris.
Friends may visit Macomber Lodge – Pearson Metropark, 4701 Navarre Ave, Oregon, Ohio on Friday, May 16 from 2:00-8:00pm. There will be a prayer service at 5:30pm with a meal to follow.
The family would like to thank the incredible team at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo and the Cleveland Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bill’s favorite places: Black Swamp Bird Conservancy or Nature’s Nursey.
