William "Bill" Houston, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this life on August 12, 2025, in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born on June 26, 1945. Bill led a life characterized by dedication and warmth, leaving behind not only a legacy of millions of safe miles as a devoted truck driver but also a family that adored him dearly.
Bill was known for his straightforward nature. He believed in honesty above all else, often sharing his thoughts without sugarcoating, ensuring that those around him always knew exactly where they stood. His loving spirit shone brightest in his relationships with his wife, Regina, of 54 years, and their children: William Houston Jr. and his wife Caryl, Charles Houston and his wife Tabatha, Robert Houston and his wife Christy, Dawn Beck and her husband Chris, Deanna Fry and her wife Kelly, and Mary Ann Doty and her partner Jason Brown. Bill was a proud grandfather to Stephanie, Michael, Heather, Kerstin, Brandon, Wes, Nikki, Paul, Thomas, Josh, Ashley, Andrew, Sabrina, and Cassie, and he cherished a host of great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Bill found happiness in his passions, from his younger years hunting coon, squirrel, pheasant, rabbit elusive deer to fishing and watching NASCAR to bowling and grilling during the family cookouts he loved so much, particularly his famous fish fries. His playful nature often had him teasing his wife, Regina, about just about everything—which was part of the fun that defined their loving relationship.
He is survived by his brother, Edward Houston; his nephews and nieces, Gary Houston and his wife Jennifer, and Jim Houston and his wife Bobbie, Shelley Houston and husband Ross Doremus, Jennifer Houston, Nate Kamer, Marty Kamer, Wanda Poulson, Eddie Houston, Pam Cogan and husband Tim, Kim Deane and husband Corey, Vern Houston and Angela Halper; along with a host of extended family members and wonderful friends who will fondly remember Bill's larger-than-life personality and his capacity for love.
Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Bert "Butch" Houston; his father, Edward Houston; his mother, Gladys Houston; and his sister, Emma Jane Kamer.
Bill Houston's life was filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. As we honor his memory, we remember the impact he had on all who knew him and the legacy of love he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
