Obituary

Willard Lee Brown II, better known as “Scooter”, was received into glory by our Lord and Savior on October 3, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Scooter was born to Willard L. Brown I and Jeanette Brown (nee McDonald) on January 11, 1970 at Toledo Hospital. The first grandson and the eldest of his siblings, Scooter did not fail to remind us that he was and always will be Number One! Scooter accepted Christ as his Savior at eleven years of age, and was a dedicated member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Melvin L. Wilson, where he used his beautiful tenor voice as a member of the Inspirational choir and Male Chorus.

He graduated from The Jesup. W. Scott high school in 1988, where he was the percussion section leader in the marching band as well as a member of the championship chess team. Scooter went on to earn his CDL’s, driving long haul trucks for a short time before following his heart's passion for cooking and becoming a sous chef. His love for cooking stemmed from his very close relationship with his grandmother, Ida Mae McDonald, who taught him how to fish and cook her signature dishes such as candied sweet potatoes, and greens; which have been deemed LEGENDARY and LIFE CHANGING by all who have been blessed to enjoy his truly soulful cooking.

Scooter loved to dance! Choreographing moves such as “The River Strip” and “Red Lobster”. Singing with his family at church and family gatherings, and begging his mother to “feather her curl” made him so happy. He loved spending time with his father, and watching his beloved Cleveland Browns. He greatly enjoyed playing cards; Bid Whist as his grandfather’s best partner, and Spades. Trash talking and slamming dominoes with his brother-in-law Chaunsy gave him a joy like no other, along with making absolutely everyone smile with an impersonation or a joke. Scooter loved his nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him as Uncle Scooty, more than anything. He babysat, cooked for them, gave them each a personalized nickname and bragged to anyone who would listen about them. He was engaged to the love of his life, whom he referred to as his “One flesh”, Tyshanta “Ty” Deloney, who never left his side during his time in the hospital. Ty was his Queen, and he treated her as such. Together, he and Ty enjoyed traveling, especially to Phoenix to visit his sister BC and her family.

Knowing Scooter meant knowing how to laugh from your soul, he was truly the family comedian. It was virtually impossible to be in a room with him and not smile from your heart. His smile could light up the world, and his laugh was absolutely infectious. He cared for his family and friends with his whole heart. Scooter never knew a stranger, just a friend he hadn’t met yet. Before his transition to glory, Scooter was showered with love by a host of family members and close friends who diligently occupied the waiting room and most of the seventh floor, eagerly waiting to visit with him. Singing songs, reminiscing, and holding his hand. Scooter was truly loved, and we are rejoicing with the angels that he has been eternally healed and making heaven just a little bit brighter with his thousand watt smile.

Scooter is preceded in death by his father Willard L. Brown I., grandmother Ida Mae McDonald, and grandfather Cordell McDonald. Scooter leaves to cherish his memory mother Jeanette Brown, his fiancee Ty Deloney, brothers Tony (Sheri) Brown, Jamey (Twylla) Brown, Gary (Marlaina) MacNair, Casey Brown, and Wesley Brown, sisters Alisha MacNair, Alisha (Chaunsy) Sellers, T’Kesha Perrin, and TreVe (Steven) Carter. His chosen children; sons Taaj Mabry Perryman and Richard Wright, daughters Tyshaela and Makayla Wright. Special aunts Cordella McDonald, Alisha Burton, and Debra McDonald, special uncles Anthony Holmes and Otis King, special cousins Vonnetta McDonald and Corey McDonald, and best friends Doug Jones, Matiz Mcrae, Teri Mabry, Amy Jones, and Joy Harris. As well as a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

We know it's not good-bye, just “See you later” Scoot.
