Listen to Obituary

Von Loyal Stambaugh, 94, of Toledo, Ohio went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 27, 2025. Born September 20,1931 he was the son of Adeline and Truman Stambaugh. He graduated from Macomber High School 1949 and immediately joined the United States Navy. In 1954-1969 He was an Ohio State Patrolman, obtaining the rank of sergeant, stationed at Toledo and Lima posts. He received many commendations for his service. In 1973 Von graduated from the University of Toledo with an Associate degree in Public Service Technology. From 1969 until he retired in 1988, he worked for the University of Toledo as an undercover detective. For a short time thereafter he worked as a U.S.Marshal in the courts, escorting prisoners.

Von loved the Lord Jesus Christ and quietly and faithfully served others. He served in the treasury, served meals for many events, constructed many projects for the children's ministries, and was involved in prayer group at First Alliance Church. Recently he was attending Faith Baptist Church in Michigan where he was baptized in June of 2021. He also throughout the years went on mission trips to Burkina Faso, Chile, Costa Rica, Haiti, Kenya, Poland and the country of Nicaragua accompanied by Faith, and Jim and Julie. He also visited Israel and Turkey with Faith.

Faith was the love of his life and he married her March 15, 1952 while still in the Navy. They were married just months short of 70 years. Together they raised Laura, Sandy, Julie, and David. Dad loved his kids, his sons-in-law,and his daughter-in-law, and set a great example to follow in marriage. He was a big tease, but we could count on him to drop everything and come to our rescue at any time.

Von was talented in many ways. He loved wood working and did many crafts throughout the years. He was an avid reader, did puzzles often, played euchre with the boys, and loved to hike in Hocking Hills.

Von is survived by his daughters, Laura (Dan) Caywood, Sandy (Jim) Worley, Julie (Jim) Stokes; daughter-in-law, Carol Stambaugh; twin Don; brothers Barney and Dale Stambaugh; 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
