Vic C. Bert (Bertwistle), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 81 in Toledo, Ohio, his lifelong home. Vic was born on January 15, 1944, in Toledo, where he grew up and attended Devilbiss High School, graduating with the class of 1962. His journey continued at the University of Toledo, where he expanded his skills and knowledge.
Vic dedicated a significant part of his career as a foreman superintendent for various companies in Toledo and Monroe, Michigan. His work ethic was unwavering, and he took immense pride in being a hardworking individual who was also kind, funny, and generous. Those who knew Vic remember him fondly as someone who never met a stranger. His outgoing personality and genuine nature allowed him to forge connections with many, and he extended his hand to anyone in need.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Vic cherished his role as a family man. He was married to his wife, Renee, in 2003, building a loving partnership that was a source of joy for both. He was a proud father to three daughters: Tracy (Rich) Benner, Jennifer (Jason Lewis) Bert, and Megan Wamer. His legacy is enriched by his grandson, Brendan Bert, whom he adored and who brought him great pride.
Vic's interests were diverse. He had a passion for yard work, fixing cars, and building things, showcasing his hands-on talent and love for creating. A big fan of Ohio State Football, he could often be found cheering for his team, embodying the spirit of a true sports enthusiast. He held membership in The Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579, where he enjoyed engaging with the community. Additionally, Vic had a special fondness for his two dogs, Chloe and Molly, companions who filled his heart with warmth.
Vic served in the army for four years before being honorably discharged, and this experience contributed to his dedication and commitment to serving others. He lived his life thoughtfully, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Virginia Bertwistle, and his sister, Sandy Boyle.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Vic’s life will be held on August 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service starting at 6:00 PM. Both events will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623.
Vic C. Bert will be profoundly missed by his wife, daughters, grandson, brother-in-law, and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom carry memories of his love, kindness, and generous spirit. His legacy of compassion and dedication will remain in their hearts forever.
