Vernon H. Waggoner

Vernon H. Waggoner, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. A 1965 graduate of Macomber High School, he was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-68. He sold flooring for over 35 years in Toledo and North Carolina. Vern was extremely active in the American Legion and VFW and held many positions in both, including Past Commander of the Lucas County American Legion, Past Commander Adams Township American Legion Post 553, Past Commander American Legion Post 642, and Past Commander VFW Post 4710. He was also a life member of the American Legion, VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Vern was often referred to as "the mayor of the neighborhood" for his selfless acts of kindness to anyone in need at any time, be it lawn care, snow removal, repairs, etc. He loved to fish and had the opportunity to experience ocean fishing many times in the Florida Keys on the boat of his father-in-law. Vern was also an avid sports card enthusiast, a passion he pursued his entire life.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years Val; son, Don (Tara), daughter, Tiffany; grandchildren, Courtney, Joshua and Kayla; sister, Polly (Paul) Laffartha and sisters-in-law, Vicki (Mike) Jackson and Margo (David) Levy; as well as extended family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Katz..

The family will receive guests Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900) with Military Services being conducted at 7:00 p.m. by Adams Township Post 553. There will be visitation on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the interment at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
