Verna Bella

June 22, 1942 — August 7, 2025

Toledo, Ohio

Verna Bella, born on June 22, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a life full of passion, purpose, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones and her Christian faith.

A dedicated entrepreneur and salesperson, Verna’s career spanned multiple roles and enterprises. She became a well-known figure in her community, having worked for esteemed employers such as Kresges Department Store, Rish Equipment, Beeline Fashions, and Tupperware Home Parties. In addition to her employment, she proudly owned and operated Country Bell Crafts in Petersburg, MI, co-owned Classic Antiques in Toledo, OH, and Country Bell Estate Sales, also in Toledo. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly, and she was deeply respected for her hard work and determination.

Verna was not only a talented businesswoman but also a beacon of joy in the lives of those who knew her. Known for her charming and contagious laughter, she delighted in sharing moments of happiness with friends and family. She brought creativity and warmth to her community through puppet shows that educated children about diabetes, demonstrating her caring nature and commitment to service. As a devoted mother, she taught her children invaluable skills such as cooking, sewing, and canning vegetables—lessons that resonate fondly in their hearts to this day.

Her accomplishments extended beyond her career; Verna was honored as Monroe County, MI Home-maker of the Year in 1994. Above all, she took tremendous pride in her family, celebrating the joys and milestones of every generation. She cherished her husband of 61 years, Bob Bella, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. Verna leaves behind her adoring daughters, Carol Schultz, Mary (Mark) Lingle, and Jennifer (Rob) Gorczyca. She was a proud grandmother to Katie, Amanda, James, Laura, Spencer, Ethan, Maddy, and Christian, and great-grandmother to Fiona, Liam, Colton, Quinn, Olive, Emery, Willow, and Rowen. Verna's legacy will also be carried on by her brother, Wayne Smith, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who were fortunate to have shared in her life.

Preceded in death by her beloved sister, Mildred Kreft, brothers Larry and Marvin Smith, her son, David Bella, and her parents, Erna Anna (nee Wilhelm) and Redden Lawrence Smith. Verna’s spirit will forever live on in the cherished memories held by her family and friends.
