Maumee, OH

Timothy Lee Wagener, age 67, of Maumee, OH passed away May 10, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Hospice Center. Tim was born May 20, 1957 in Toledo to Leland and Mary Lou (Pickard) Wagener.

A lifelong member of St. Joseph Maumee Catholic Church, Tim attended grade school at St. Joseph and was a graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School. Early in Tim's work career he was employed by the Governor's Inn, Kelly's IGA Foodliner and Biniker Construction. Tim began Total Video Rentals and Sales in 1980, which was one of the first video stores of its kind in Northwest Ohio. He also worked for Modern Woodmen of America following the closing of his video stores until his retirement. Tim was a former member of the Maumee City Council and served as Council President. He proudly served as Mayor of Maumee from 1999-2012.

Tim had a variety of special personal interests; the most important of these being his family, movies, politics (Tim served as President of The Maumee Democratic Club and also had the privilege during his public service to meet several United States Presidents and congressional leaders), and music - his favorite song along with his wife, Karen, was "Happy Together" by the Turtles.

Tim loved Maumee and was a passionate supporter of Maumee’s city workers, fire and police departments, local military members, and the Maumee Valley Historical Society. He was always pleased to be included when the Maumee Community Band would play. Tim had a longtime involvement with the Senior Movie Day that he worked on with the Maumee Indoor Theatre and Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home.

Tim had many accomplishments during his tenure in public service. Highlights include construction of the new city building and the main fire station, Rolfe Park Pool, refurbishing the Maumee Indoor Theatre, the Fire and Police Training Facility, and the Uptown Beautification.

In addition to his parents, Tim was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Marcella (Pfleghaar) Wagener and Arnold and Irene (Vanata) Pickard; brother in-law, Rick Monto, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Enright) Wagener, whom he married September 24, 1982; children, Yoona (Jonnie Clermont) Wagener and Trevin (Marla Mims) Wagener; grandsons, Malcolm and Winston; siblings, Greg (Cornelia), Eric (Linda), and Dave (Debbie) Wagener and Janice (Wagener) Monto; and a large contingent of nieces and nephews as well as cousins spread across the country.
