Teresa McCaster

Teresa McCaster, age 64, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the Edward and Marion Knight Hospice Center in Perrysburg, Ohio. Born on December 12, 1960, Teresa was the fourth of six children to the late Tommy McCaster and Hostina B. McCaster of Toledo.

A lifelong resident of Toledo, Teresa was a proud graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Class of 1978. Her school years, especially at DeVeaux Junior High and DeVilbiss, were marked by active involvement in the deaf communities - a commitment to connection and inclusivity that she carried throughout her life.

Teresa was known for her warm spirit, quick smile, and deep love for both family and community. She worked for a time at the U.S. Post Office, where her kindness, reliability, and dedication to service left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the many people she encountered.

Education and lifelong learning were central to Teresa’s identity. As a proud member of the TPS Deaf Alumni Association, she nurtured meaningful relationships and remained an advocate for accessible communication and community engagement. She was also an avid reader who found joy and meaning in books - often sharing her love of reading with others and supporting her local library. For Teresa, stories were not just entertainment, but a way to build bridges and understanding.

In 2017, Teresa began a new chapter in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she created new memories and friendships before returning home to Toledo in July 2025, following health challenges.

Teresa’s greatest joy came from her family. She is lovingly survived by her children: Gregory Griffin Jr. and Dr. Josephine (Honest) Mhende; and her grandchildren: Diaunte Griffin, Jacob Mhende, and Rayna Mhende - all of whom she cherished deeply.

She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Marion McCaster of Toledo, Roberta (Eli) McCaster-Waiters of Berea, Ohio, Hostina Parnell of Toledo, and Loretta McCaster of Toledo, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were touched by her generous heart.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Hostina McCaster, and her siblings, Vernon McCaster and Victoria Mincey. She carried their memory with her always.

Teresa McCaster will be remembered for her compassion, her wisdom, her love of learning, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her kindness, humor, and nurturing presence will be missed beyond words - but her legacy lives on in every life she touched.

The family will gather to honor Teresa’s life with a visitation on October 24, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, both taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614.
