Stanley Ray Dorris, a man of profound devotion and unwavering kindness, entered eternal rest on December 8, 2025, at the age of 76 in Holland, Ohio. Born in Sparta, Illinois, on December 27, 1948, he lived a life marked by an abundance of love, laughter, and selfless dedication to family, friends, and faith.
A true student of both life and learning, Stanley graduated from Portage Township High School in the class of 1967. His quest for knowledge led him to Purdue University, where he achieved an Associate in Applied Science degree on June 7, 1970, subsequently earning a Bachelor of Science degree on January 26, 1972. His academic pursuits were not merely a means to a career, as he transitioned into the role of Project Estimator in Construction, a profession that sustained him throughout his life, embodying his meticulous and calculated approach to work.
Beyond his professional achievements, Stanley was a beacon of warmth and compassion. He enriched the lives of those around him with his engaging personality, characterized by a delightful blend of humor, quick wit, and quiet strength. Quietly supportive and remarkably generous, he was deeply family-oriented, finding his greatest joy in the cherished moments spent with his loved ones. Stanley and his beloved wife, Nancy, whom he married during their formative high school years and who later preceded him in death, dedicated their lives to nurturing a family that would reflect their values of love and kindness.
Together, they adopted four remarkable children, fostering over fifty others during their time as a loving family unit. His legacy lives on through his children—Sandra (Ross), Brian (Kristy), Billy (Destiny), Kerri (Andy), and Nicholas—alongside his grandchildren: Andrew, Alex, Kalib, Gabriella, Malakhai, Katlyn, Matthew, Jackson, Kayden, Ashton, Isabella, Hannah, Angelica, Savannah, and Olivia. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Isabella M., Isaac, and Amelia, who brought immeasurable joy to his heart.
Stanley’s commitment extended far beyond the walls of his home and into the community he cherished. A stalwart member of Calvary Bible Chapel, he faithfully served on the church board and hosted Bible study sessions, where his passion for sharing faith was palpable. His talents transcended the spoken word, as he lent his beautiful voice to the church choir, lifting spirits through the power of song. Additionally, he enjoyed his time in the Bridge, Euchre, and Spades clubs, where his competitive spirit shone and earned him many trophies and accolades.
As a man of diverse interests, Stanley relished vacations to Arizona with Nancy, cherishing their winters amidst the warmth and beauty of the desert. His adventurous spirit found solace in camping trips to Canada, reflecting a love for the great outdoors. An avid gun collector, he often shared his knowledge and passion with others, embodying the very essence of a generous mentor and friend.
Stanley is preceded in death by his devoted parents, Milton and Elnora Dorris, and his brother, Joe. Their memories joined with his will remain an indelible part of the tapestry of his life, shaping the man many knew and loved.
Those who knew Stanley Ray Dorris will remember him not just for his accomplishments, but for the love he poured into every conversation, every act of kindness, and every moment spent in the company of his cherished family and friends.
