Sophie Calisch

Sophie (Sofia) Calisch Midas, aged 101, of Toledo, Ohio, gracefully departed from this world on December 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 31, 1924, in Toledo, Sofia was a cherished figure within her community and a beloved member of her family.

Sofia reigned as a devoted wife to her late husband, Merril Calisch, who left an indelible mark on her life and heart. Together, they established a nurturing home filled with love and laughter. While she mourned the loss of her daughter Janys, she continued to celebrate the joys of motherhood through her surviving sons, Tony and Jeff. Her legacy of love lives on through her three treasured grandchildren, who were often recipients of her affection and culinary talents.

Renowned for her exceptional cooking skills, Sofia had a particular flair for preparing beloved dishes such as chick chock a belly and her legendary cheese pie, sharing not only meals but also warmth and love with all who gathered around her table. Her infectious spirit and deep commitment to her family and friends left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A visitation will be held in her honor on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo, beginning at 10:00 AM and concluding at 11:00 AM. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania at 11:30 AM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Sofia's remarkable life and the positive influences she had on those around her.
