Shirley’s life was woven together by her dedication to both family and career. She spent many fruitful years working for notable establishments such as A&P Tea Company, Joseph's Supermarkets, Petros Market, and Seaway Foodtown as a Clerk and Cashier, where she showcased her unwavering work ethic and cheerful demeanor. More than a career, it was her family that brought her the greatest joy. Shirley poured her heart and soul into cultivating a loving family, finding immense pride in creating lasting memories, particularly during the birth of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley's personality was a tapestry of warmth and generosity. Known for her heart of gold and her larger-than-life spirit, she was a dedicated mom and wife who never let a birthday or holiday pass without celebrating her loved ones. Her famous banana bread became a cherished gift for family and friends, a symbol of her love expressed in the most delicious way. Many will fondly remember how she embraced life’s little moments, whether watching NASCAR races or basking in the sun’s warmth, all the while nurturing her garden and appreciating the beauty of nature.
She left behind a legacy not only through her steadfast support but also through the love shared with her children—Ted Kesler, Debbie LaPoint, Kelly Doll, and Dawn (Tony) Mahn—and her grandchildren, Kerrie Kesler, Dorian LaPoint, Kodi (Jennifer) Kesler, Ryan (Julie) Hakeos, Stephanie (Jason) Schuchard, Leighann (Rob) Schroyer, Rachel (Gene) Schoen, Daniell Roberts, and Jamie (Jacinto) Pecina. Shirley also held a special bond with her sister-in-law Ruth Alford, along with numerous great-grandchildren, extended family, and close friends who were blessed to be part of her life.
Shirley is now reunited with her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, Donald J. Dunn, as well as her late mother, Viola Jane Alford (nee Coger), father, James Sylvester Alford, sister and brother-in-law Judith (Carl) Newmister, brother James Alford, and her children, Tim Kesler and Debbie Powers. Their absence only amplifies the love and missing presence she leaves in the hearts of those who remain.
