Shirley Arnold

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Arnold (Sam), on August 12, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and friend who dedicated her life to uplifting others with warmth, wisdom, and compassion.

Shirley was born on March 31, 1956, to Beatrice and Lester Arnold. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Jim and Larry.

She is survived by her three children: Nick, Ben (Sara), and Andrea (Chad); and her six cherished grandchildren: Madison, Audrey, Matthew, Brooklyn, Hannah and Samantha. Her family was the light of her life, she found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter.

Shirley was devoted to her career in education, first as a guidance counselor at Notre Dame Academy and later as the assistant principal at Toledo School for the Arts. Her passion for helping young people discover and develop their unique talents touched countless lives. Her students and colleagues remember her not only for her dedication, but for her rare gift of making each person feel seen, heard, and valued.

Whether in a professional setting, at a family gathering, or with her many friends, Shirley had the unique ability to make you feel like the only person in the room. Her presence was comforting, her words encouraging, and her heart endlessly generous.

Shirley’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering belief in the potential of others will live on through all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Friends will be received at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, August 26 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio.
