Sandra "Sandy" L. Montz, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and trailblazer, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on December 19, 1952, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Sandy’s remarkable life was marked by courage, warmth, and a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew her.
Sandy graduated in the Class of 1970 from Hubbard High School in Hubbard, Ohio. Early in her career, she broke barriers as one of the first female steel sales representatives in Toledo, a testament to her determination and pioneering spirit. Later, she nurtured her passion for flowers and blossomed into a gifted florist, a role that beautifully combined her love for nature and creativity. Sandy’s zest for life extended to her hobbies; she delighted in sewing and was known to arrange flowers with grace and skill up until just a week before her passing.
Affectionately nicknamed “Big Red” for her fiery personality and distinctive stature standing at 4'11", Sandy was a true firecracker whose presence could light up any room. Her caring nature and boundless kindness endeared her to everyone she met, and she was profoundly loved by her family, who remained her pride and joy throughout her life.
Sandy is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Chester Montz; her sons, Shadd Ellison (Natalie) and Ben Ellison (Kristie); and her cherished grandchildren, Cameron, Gage, and Kaylee. She was also a treasured sister to Bonnie Vickery, Terri McPherson, and Charles “Scott” Andrews, and held a special place in her heart for her brother-in-law, Al Montz. Numerous nieces and nephews continue to carry forward Sandy’s legacy of love and warmth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Andrews, and her grandson, Matthew, whose memories remain forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Sandra L. Montz’s life was a radiant tapestry of resilience, love, and joy. Her legacy of strength and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her entire family and all whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family is welcoming donations for Sandy's cemetery marker (make checks payable to Chester).
