Sandra Kay Mankowski, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 74 on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 11:22 p.m. at the National Healthcare rehabilitation center in Bluffton, South Carolina. Born on June 7, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, Sandy graduated from Rogers High School in 1969 and embarked on a life rich with experiences and accomplishments.
Sandy began her journey in life within the vibrant community of Toledo, where she met her first husband, Marty Mankowski. They shared their lives together from 1972 until his passing on January 6, 1998. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Sandy established Mankowski Domestic Services, a cleaning service that flourished under her leadership, garnering a diverse clientele that included notable companies such as Libbey Glass and Hunts Ketchup.
In 2002, Sandy relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she continued to thrive in a new role with Hilton Head Rentals and Golf. Her passion for hospitality and entrepreneurship led her to found her own rental company, Sandy Beaches Vacation Rentals, which embodied her love for the coastal lifestyle.
In her personal life, Sandy found love again and married Dr. David Hollaway on June 19, 2021. Their time together, though brief, was filled with joy and companionship until his passing on April 7, 2023.
Sandy's adventurous spirit shined through in her various pursuits. She cherished time spent walking, playing racquetball, creating crafts, and enjoying the beach—activities that brought her great joy. Most importantly, she treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren, who were a constant source of happiness in her life.
Sandy is survived by her daughter Tonyia McCarthy (Shaun Sellers) and son Toby Mankowski (Meaghen), as well as her stepchildren Dylan Holloway, Hannah Holloway, and Foster Holloway. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren Kyle McCarthy, Riley McCarthy, Tanon Mankowski, Trace Mankowski, Mahana Mankowski, and great-granddaughter Stella Rushing. She is also remembered by her brothers Duane Bartolet (Cindy), Garry Bartolet (Karen), and Debbie Farley Mutter (Wes); along with stepbrothers Alan Bancroft (Brenda) and stepsister Virginia Jude (Richard).
Sandy was preceded in death by her first husband Marty Mankowski, her second husband Dr. David Hollaway, her parents Glenna Jean Bancroft and James Robert Bartolet, her brother Troy Bartolet, and stepbrother Jimmy Bancroft. She is also mourned by her sister Tammie Konwin, who sadly passed away on July 1, 2025.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3655 King Rd, Toledo, OH, on July 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will commence at 1:00 p.m., followed by a procession to the cemetery and a celebration of life at Joseph W Dien Post, honoring Sandy's vibrant spirit and love for life.
