Sally LaVonne Stewart

October 26, 1946 — May 17, 2025

Temperance, MI

Sally LaVonne Stewart, a beloved member of the Toledo community and cherished matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on October 26, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, Sally was a shining light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Sally attended Whitmer High School and she spent her career retired from Irv’s Auto Parts, yet it was her true vocation in life that came from the love she gave to her family and friends. She was known for her selfless spirit and her heart of gold, traits that endeared her to many. Her laughter resonated through the lives of those she loved, and her kindness profoundly impacted everyone around her.

Sally was an avid reader, a passionate cook, and a dedicated gardener, often found in her garden, harnessing her love for nature. She had a special affection for cooking traditional jigs dinner, especially for St. Patrick's Day, making those occasions memorable for her family. She also enjoyed fishing, famously stating, "Just give me a pole and a place to sit..." — a testament to her simple joys in life. Her love for old and classic cars often led her and her beloved husband Woody to flea markets and car shows, where memories were created and laughter was shared.

Among her many interests, Sally had a passion for reading books and writing, even having a few of her stories published to children's magazines. She cherished the moments spent playing paddle pool and bunco with her loved ones, where her humorous nature could truly shine. She often glowed with love for her family, demonstrating a warmth that made all feel right in her presence.

Sally's proudest accomplishments include raising and nurturing an amazing family and purchasing her beloved Kia Soul—symbolic of her determination and unwavering spirit. Her family remembers her not only for these achievements but for how she was always able to find a way, whether that be through her faith, love, humor, and or stubborn resilience in every aspect of her life, she always found a way to support herself and her loving family.

She is survived by her devoted children, Chris (Mike) Riley, Jim (Michelle) Stalker, Tammy Stalker, Bryan Stewart, Darrel Stewart, and David (Julie) Stewart; her treasured grandchildren, Mike (Agata) Riley, Jr, Tony Horton, Malinda Horton, Carolyn Vasquez, Brittany Stalker, Joseph Busch, Cassie Hogan, Jacob Stewart, Molly Stewart, Nicholas Stewart, Josie Stewart, and many great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Callie.

Sally was predeceased by her mother, Ella McKinnis; father, James McKaig; husband, Woody Stewart, whom she married on December 31, 1986; daughter, Sandy Stalker; grandson, Steven Horton; and granddaughter, Shalonda Horton.

The world is a little dimmer without Sally's light, yet her legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her remarkable spirit. She will be missed more than words can express, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

A visitation will be held in her honor at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, on May 27, 2025, from 2 PM to 7 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved Sally to join them in celebrating her beautiful life.
