Sally Mae Rutkowski, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and godmother passed away on June 5, 2026, in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born May 15, 1963, Sally lived a life marked by quiet kindness, creativity, and a deep love for Polish music, traditions, and people that shaped her.
A proud graduate of Woodward High School’s Class of 1982, Sally carried with her the values of her upbringing, nurtured in a warm family environment. Her early years in Toledo were colored by the rich sounds of Polish music, a passion she shared lovingly with her siblings during many joyful visits to Polish festivals. Those who knew Sally well recall her as a gentle soul who, while sometimes reserved, revealed a loving spirit often seen as she enjoyed time with family and friends at gatherings.
Sally’s voice was a treasured presence in the St. Clements Catholic Church Choir, where she sang for many years. Through those melodies and harmonies, she not only expressed her faith but also forged enduring friendships within the church community. Her love of music was a window into her heart and the joy she found in connecting with others through song.
Beyond her musical talents, Sally was a woman of many interests and hobbies. She was an avid watcher of The Ohio State Buckeyes football games, sharing that enthusiasm perhaps with equal fervor as she did enjoying Rudy's hotdogs and Milky Way candy bars. At home and in the company of loved ones, she found comfort and creativity in crocheting, producing numerous handmade gifts that delighted her family and friends. Additionally, her skill and patience shone brightly as she crafted diamond dot pictures—each one a testament to her thoughtful nature and artistic creativity. These cherished creations remain as lasting legacies of her care and affection.
Her love extended to her animal companions, her cats Aniol, Hershey Kisses, and Minnie Mae—who were sources of comfort and joy in her life. At the care center where she spent her later days, Sally was known for her countless stories, sharing laughter and camaraderie with friends over games of Bingo, which she enjoyed.
Sally is survived by her brother Stas Rutkowski and his wife Andie; her sisters Lori Rutkowski, Nancy Menke and husband Rob, and Luann Cramer; as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews—Danielle Stinson, Nick Rutkowski, Rachel Bresler, Carrie McCaughtry, Will McCaughtry, Amy Shaw, Jackie Lazdins, Katie Kable—along with eleven great-nieces and nephews. Her family was further enriched by an extended circle of cousins, aunts, uncles, and many other loving relatives who will carry her memory close to their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Danny and Gertie Rutkowski, her brother-in-law Lee Cramer, and her nephew Rob Cramer.
Sally Mae Rutkowski’s legacy is one of strength, creative spirit, and love. While she may have quietly kept to herself at times, she nonetheless left an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing her. In the stories told, the songs sung, and the crafts lovingly made, her presence continues to resonate, a lasting tribute to a life beautifully lived.
