Royal "Bud" Billings Jr.

Royal “Bud” Billings Jr., of Temperance, Michigan, passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on June 1, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio.

Bud was a 1965 graduate of Bedford High School. He went on to build a strong work ethic that defined much of his life, working as a welder for more than 30 years before retiring from General Building Products. He also served his community with dedication as a firefighter for the Lambertville Fire Department for over 30 years. Even after retirement, Bud preferred to keep moving and stay active, and he spent time working at Gill-Roy’s in Lambertville because he simply did not enjoy sitting still at home.

He will be remembered as a funny, kind, sweet, and down-to-earth man who could get along with everyone. He was always helpful and carried a true servant’s heart in all that he did. Those who knew Bud knew a man who found joy in both simple pleasures and time spent with the people he loved most.

Bud enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and he was always happy to spend time at American Table. He lovingly took care of his children’s chickens, dogs, and other pets, a small but meaningful reflection of the care he gave so freely. He loved drag racing and enjoyed going to Milan Dragway, where he also worked the ambulance for many years. Sundays spent bowling with his kids became cherished family time. He also enjoyed road trips to Tennessee, searching local flea markets for treasures, and cheering on his favorite Michigan and Tennessee teams with true enthusiasm.

Among the great joys of his life was his family. Bud and his wife, Sherri, shared 47 years of marriage before her passing in 2025. He loved being a grandpa, but those closest to him knew he was an even better dad, and that devotion to his children and family was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Bud is survived by his son, Steve Billings and his wife, Hope, and by his daughters, Paula Swan and Sheila Reynolds. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Brown and husband William, Debbie Bartel, and Kathy Cornelison. He leaves behind a beloved group of grandchildren: Cody Billings and wife Avery, Makenzie Billings and husband Austin, Dani Rowland and husband Bobby, Liv Donbrosky, Hil Donbrosky and partner Steven, Nick Reynolds, Meghan Sidhar and husband Shubhum, Brittany Young, Ashley Stewart-Young and wife Faith, and Corvette Billings, as well as seven great-grandchildren who brought added joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri Billings; his son, Noel Billings; his brothers, Larry Billings and Terry Billings; and his parents, Royal Billings Sr. and Betty Billings.

Visitation will be held on September 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43623. The funeral service will begin there at 1:00 p.m. on September 18, 2026. A graveside service will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43606.

Bud’s life was marked by hard work, service, humor, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
