Ronald Carl MacKay

Ronald Carl MacKay, known to many as Ron, passed away on August 28, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on September 24, 1953, in Toledo, and remained closely connected to the community that shaped his life.

Ron graduated from Whitmer High School and, from there, continued learning on his own. He was self-taught, deeply well read, and especially drawn to history. That interest became one of the defining passions of his life. He loved history, collected many items related to it, and was particularly devoted to HO scale war pieces. His collection reflected both his knowledge and his enthusiasm, and those who knew him understood how much joy he found in preserving and exploring the past.

In his personal life, Ron was known for his humor and his steady presence. He was always joking around, and he made a lasting effort to stay in touch with friends and family. He retired early and became a stay-at-home dad to his son, Aaron, taking on that role long before it became common. He was always there for his family and friends. Of all the things that mattered to him, his proudest accomplishment was his son, Aaron. Ron and Aaron shared a very special bond that stood at the center of his life.

Ron also had a great love for cats and always had them in his life, caring for them with affection. His home and his interests reflected a man of curiosity, loyalty, warmth, and wit.

He is survived by his son, Aaron MacKay, whose life was a source of deep pride and love for him.

Ron was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Melinda MacKay; his parents, Carl and Dorothy MacKay.

Visitation will be held on September 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43623. A graveside service will follow that same day from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St, Sylvania, Ohio 43560.

Ron will be remembered for his devotion to his son, his love of history, his humor, and the faithful way he stayed connected to the people he cared about. His memory will remain with those who knew and loved him.
