Roland "Rolley" Converse, a treasured soul known for his unwavering kindness and vibrant spirit, passed away on June 26, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 8, 1936, his journey through life was marked by profound dedication to both his profession and the loved ones he cherished dearly.
A distinguished architectural designer, Rolley made significant contributions to the field while working with Coger Architect and Michael Dunn Architect in Kinston, North Carolina. His keen eye for design and detail transformed spaces and left a lasting impact on the community he served. Rolley was not just an architect; he was a visionary who saw beauty and potential in every project, reflecting his upbeat attitude and good sense of humor that drew people to him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rolley was passionate about building memories with his family. He spent countless joyful moments with his grandsons, joining in on their karate classes and embarking on unforgettable cruises. These cherished memories are a testament to his deep sense of service to others, showcasing a man who always put family first.
As an Army veteran, he proudly served his country, and his commitment to service did not end there. He served as the sectional commander for Royal Rangers for over a decade and dedicated many years of his life as a Missions Director for his church in North Carolina. His contributions reflect a man devoted to uplifting those around him, fostering a spirit of community and togetherness.
Rolley is survived by his beloved wife, Royann Converse; son, Rick (Julia) Converse; daughter, Rochelle (Travis) Moore; and grandchildren, Joe Converse, Isaac Moore, and Isaiah Moore. Each of them carries forward the values he instilled, the kindness he exemplified, and the love he shared so freely.
Rolley's legacy will be celebrated during a visitation and Celebration of Life service at Calvary Church in Maumee, Ohio, on July 1, 2025, where family and friends will gather to honor the man who never knew a stranger, brought happiness wherever he went, and built a beloved family that will forever cherish his memory. On the following day, Rolley's burial will be held at Toledo Memorial Parks with graveside honors.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Mildred Converse (nee Noyes), and father, Hugh Converse. While they may no longer walk this earth, their influence undoubtedly shaped the remarkable man he became.
Roland Converse will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but for his unwavering love for family, his infectious laughter, and the many lives he touched along every step of his journey. His spirit will continue to soar in the hearts of those he loved, forever leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
