Robert R. Thomas III, known affectionately as Bob, was born on June 15, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, and passed away on November 7, 2025, in Maumee, Ohio. Bob's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to family, a passion for community service, and a joyful spirit that touched the hearts of many. Bob was a fighter, through his life he battled Myasthenia Gravis Disease and fought three rounds of Cancer that included multiple battles with Chemotherapy. In spite of all this, he was always able to keep his sense of humor and positive attitude.

Bob graduated from Waite High School in 1967, where he pursued various interests including cheerleading, swimming, and singing in the school choir. His dedication to life and learning set the foundation for his illustrious career at LOF, where he devoted 30 years of his life before retiring to embrace his roles as a professional grandfather, paperboy, and mailman.

A proud veteran, Bob served his country in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret Medic during the Vietnam War. His dedication to serving others extended beyond the military; he was deeply involved in his community, attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, where he contributed his talents as a devoted member of the choir.

Bob's warmth and outgoing personality made him a beloved figure in the lives of those around him. He had never met a joke he thought wasn't worth sharing, and his friendly demeanor made friends wherever he went. He delighted in telling stories and creating memories, always finding joy in the little things.

His greatest pride came from his family, most notably his beloved wife Cathy, whom he adored, they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage where there was not a single day that he did not tell her, "I love you". Together, they cherished a lifetime of adventures, traveling the world and creating countless memories. Bob was a dedicated father to his children: Ricki Brisbin and husband Chris, Jason Thomas and wife Kaela, and Julie Bock and husband Chad. He was equally devoted to his grandchildren, who adored him immensely: Samantha, Alexandra, Kelsi, Olivia, Madison, Mackenzie, Corinne, Ellis, Ian, Aubrey, Avery, and Bryson. His legacy further extends to his great-grandchildren, Camryn, Lorelai, Elena, Tatum, Kaiden, Wonny, and Jace.

Bob was not only a devoted family man but also a man of many interests. He was an avid sports enthusiast, passionately cheering for the Detroit Tigers and The Ohio State Buckeyes. A consummate photographer, he documented countless family events with his keen eye for capturing special moments. Bob’s love for bowling culminated in a proud achievement when, in his seventies, he bowled his first 300 game — a testament to his exuberance for life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his children and their spouses; his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters Cindy Thomas, Cherie Minnick, Teri Fry and husband Jim; his brothers-in-law Terry McVicker and wife Kim, Pat McVicker, and Paula Jakubec, as well as sister-in-law Peggy Rideout. Bob was fortunate to have a close-knit extended family and a wide circle of friends who will profoundly miss his joyous spirit.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unyielding kindness that will resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished, as he embodied the spirit of family and friendship throughout his remarkable life.
