Robert Hofmeister, age 87, of Monclova Township, passed away on July 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 12, 1937, in Toledo, OH, to Max and Anna (Aigner) Hofmeister. Bob spent his younger years with his family and brothers in Toledo. After the passing of his parents when he was still young, he and his brothers Richard and Albert spent a few years at St. Anthony’s Orphanage on Cherry St. They had fond memories of spending summers at Camp Lady of the Lake near Luna Pier Michigan. After a few years, he went to live with his Uncle Albert and Aunt Marian Hofmeister, where he spent his formative years alongside his cousins, making lifelong friends.
After graduating from Macomber High School, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Armstrong, Ontario, and Syracuse, NY. After his enlistment, he returned to Toledo and began work at GM Powertrain on Alexis Road in 1960. He ultimately retired as a Pipefitter in 2000 after 40 years of dedicated service. Even after retirement, he continued to enjoy involvement with the UAW through group bus trips, special events, and monthly meetings.
Robert married his beloved wife, Susanne Krolak in 1967. He built their first house across from Regina Coeli Catholic Church, where they were parishioners for nearly 30 years. Bob and Sue made a loving home where they raised their two children, Eric and Denise.
Bob loved to travel and took his family on many memorable vacation trips throughout the U.S., including two cross-country drives in the family station wagon through the West. Bob and Sue continued to enjoy his passion for travel up to and after retirement, visiting all 50 states, the Caribbean, much of Europe, and even China. His favorite trip was spending time visiting family in Bavaria.
Bob was very proud of his German heritage. He was a life-long member of the Bavarian Sports Club in Toledo where he enjoyed attending a variety of events, including the annual Bavarian summer picnics, Christmas parties and very often getting together at the club to play cards with his brothers and friends. He was also a founding member of the German American Festival Society, involved in putting together the original German American Festivals held at Raceway Park.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Max and Richard Hofmeister. He is survived by his wife, Susanne; son, Eric (Donna) Hofmeister; daughter, Denise (G Scott) Mortemore; grandchildren, Hunter (Madison) Mortemore, Renee Mortemore, Kayla Hofmeister, Katie Mortemore and Alex Hofmeister; great-grandchild, Wyatt Mortemore; and brother, Albert (Linda) Hofmeister.
