Robert "Bob" Hanf, 79, passed into heaven peacefully on Friday, November 14th at home surrounded by his family after a short but courageous fight with MDS. Bob was born on 10/22/1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Rowland and Evelyn Hanf. Bob started dating the love of his life, Delores, at age 13 and they married in 1968.
After graduating from Bowsher High School, Bob attended the University of Toledo and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Pharmacy, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. After starting his career at his family's pharmacy, LM Hanf & Sons Drugs he and his wife opened their own pharmacy, Hanf's Heatherdowns Pharmacy, earning a reputation for taking excellent care of patients. After selling the pharmacy, Bob worked at Collins & Parker Pharmacy, started the Churchill's Pharmacy in Perrysburg and helped to found the pharmacy buying group for Spartan foods. He later worked for Mercy Health, managing the outpatient pharmacies before retiring and returning to retail pharmacy at the Churchills Pharmacy in Perrysburg a couple days a month. Bob loved being a Pharmacist and took pride in providing personalized and compassionate care to all of his patients.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Louis Hanf and sister-in-law, Shirl Keener. He is survived by his cherished wife of 57 years, Delores, children, Lauryl Kristufek (Don), Michael Hanf, and Jennifer Keys (John), his eight grandchildren, Andrew (Lily), Lucas, Taylor, Tyler (Emily), Allison, Bradley, Evelyn and Merida, sister-in-laws, Rosella Hanf and Jean Behnfeldt, and brother-in-laws, Nick Behnfeldt and Milt Keener.
Bob loved camping, boating, ice cream, trips to the cottage but most of all his family. Bob accomplished so much in life, both professionally and personally, but would never boast or take credit. Instead, he would take any time you had to tell you how amazing his wife was or how proud he was of his kids and grandkids and all the things they were doing.
Anyone that met Bob would remember his wonderful stories of the old days and talking with Bob was like a history lesson of Toledo. His stories were a gift to all that knew him. Bob never forgot a name and found someone he knew no matter where, or how far from home he was. He always looked sharp, with perfectly combed hair even during his final days. Truly, a life well-lived! We will always love you more, and you'll live on forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11th at Newcomer Funeral Home at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. from 2-7pm. An opportunity for family and friends to share memories will begin at 7pm.
