Richard E. Pieper, fondly known as "Dick," passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born on June 20, 1944, Richard was a lifelong resident who devoted his life to his family, his community, and his varied pursuits with unwavering dedication and a gentle spirit.
A proud graduate of Macomber Whitney High School’s class of 1962, Richard went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Toledo. His professional journey was marked by his commitment as a Certified Public Accountant, proudly owning and operating Richard E. Pieper and Associates for an impressive three decades. Alongside his successful accounting career, Richard shared his entrepreneurial spirit as the owner of Harold's Bar and Grill on Laskey Road, a beloved local establishment.
Richard was a man of patient demeanor and steadfast temperament, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. Known for his giving and loving personality, he was a consummate provider—a devoted husband, a caring father, and a cherished grandfather. His life was rich with simple joys and meaningful traditions. Richard enjoyed working in his yard, dancing with his wife Kathy in their younger years, and spending time outdoors. He treasured Sunday drives, fishing excursions, and camping trips with his children, creating lasting memories centered around family togetherness. A fan of television classics, he was particularly fond of "Jeopardy" and the soothing melodies of Lawrence Welk.
Richard’s hospitality was legendary among neighbors and friends, where many warm afternoons were spent sharing a beer on his front porch. His love for nature found a special place at Bear Lake in Hillsdale, where he vacationed and embraced quiet moments of reflection.
Richard’s survivors include his loving wife Kathy Pieper, to whom he was married for 50 years. He is also survived by his children—Natalie Keller and her husband Tom, Eric Pieper and his wife Darlene, and Gretchen Arsenault and her partner Ralph. Richard’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Logan Barboza and his wife Katie, Maddison Morgan and her husband James, Karrygan Diaz Pinango and her husband David, Cameron Arsenault, Haidan Arsenault, TJ Keller, Pyper Keller, Berlynn Keller, and Lane Keller. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren JT, Lilly, Henry, and Julian. Continuing the family bonds, Richard is survived by his brother Bill Pieper; brothers-in-law John Pizio and his wife Debbie, Dennis Carmen and his wife Mary Ann, and sister-in-law Concetta Pizio; along with a loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who all held him dear.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother Tom Pieper and sisters-in-law Pat Pieper and Connie Pieper, who remain in the hearts of those who remember them.
