Richard M. "Dick" Wagener

Richard M. “Dick” Wagener, a beloved lifelong resident of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on September 25, 2025, at the age of 70 at his sister, Becky’s home. He was born on December 15, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio, to Robert J. and Jane H. (Wagonlander) Wagener.

Dick made a meaningful impact throughout his life as a carpenter and as a proud member of Local 50 Maintenance. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from spending cherished moments with his family to offering a helping hand to elderly neighbors with gardening and other tasks. Dick was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Browns fan. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting, particularly duck hunting, as well as homing pigeons. Dick also took great pride in working at the Maumee Mirror and refinishing antiques.

He will be fondly remembered for his vibrant personality, characterized by his unique sense of humor and an array of affectionate nicknames such as "Peeler," "Bones," and "Dog Whisperer."

Dick is survived by a loving family that includes his siblings: Bev (Cary) Hazard, Deb (Dan) Graham, Becky (Dave King) Bihn, Missy Long, Steve (Judy Cole) Wagener, Amy Zaborowski, and Jennifer (Clark) Kennedy, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Michael, Patrick, and Beth “Boo Boo,” as well as his nephew, Ben Hazard.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Newcomer Funeral Home, (Southwest Chapel), located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Sharing of Memories service will begin at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Duck’s Unlimited in honor of Dick’s love for nature and the outdoors. The family requests that you wear your favorite NFL or college football jersey.

Dick's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
