Listen to Obituary

Raymond M. Farmer, age 69, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. With his daughter Amy and lifelong friend Eddie Joe Lay by his side, Ray took his final breath surrounded by love.

Born in Monroe, Michigan, Ray was the son of William “Billy” and Mable (Russel) Farmer. He grew up in Monroe and attended Jefferson High School, where his strong work ethic and love for animals began to take root. After working for Steel Castings, Ray followed his heart and lifelong passion, horses. He dedicated his life to owning, training, and racing horses, a calling that brought him joy and fulfillment.

Ray’s talent and devotion to the sport earned him recognition across Ohio, Michigan, and Canada. He was a familiar and respected figure at tracks like Raceway and Windsor, and was recognized several times as “Top Trainer” at the former Raceway Park in Toledo; a testament to his skill and dedication.

Though horses were Ray’s life’s work, his greatest pride and joy came from his family, especially his grandsons. Their laughter and presence lit up his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Louise Noah and Misty Dawn Lewis; and his uncle, Louie Russel.

He leaves behind a loving family: his son, Billy Farmer; daughters, Angie Twigg and Amy Farmer; grandsons, Austin Twigg, Wyatt Farmer, and Zachary Farmer; siblings, Mary Farmer, Nancy (Rick) Love, Danny (Kellie) Farmer, and Tammy (Loye) Meyers; and his aunt, Betty (Don) Gulley. His devoted friend Eddie Joe Lay will also carry Ray’s memory with deep affection.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Michigan.
