Listen to Obituary

Peter E. Mosqueda, age 85, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his home. He was born April 8, 1940, in Rosebud, Texas, to Evarista and Roberto Mosqueda. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Janet K. Mosqueda, who always said he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. He was also preceded by his step-daughter, Lesia Horner, and step-son, Billy Wayne Moore; brother, Robert Mosqueda Jr; cousin and best friend, Pedro Urias; parents-in-law, William F. and Gladys Shuff; brothers-in-law, Dave Palicki and William F. Shuff Jr.; and sisters-in-law, June Chandler, Barbara Manning, and Cathy Shuff.

Pete is survived by his daughter, Heather Mosqueda (fiancée Greg Panick), who loved him fiercely and saw him as her lifelong hero, as well as his brothers Luis (Leslie), Joe (Pat), Jesse (Diane), Frank (Pat); sisters, Tina Palicki and Helen (Willie) Person; and cousin and best friend, Larry "JR" Martin, Jr. Pete leaves behind four grandchildren from his blended family, including Amanda Sattler and Steven (Cynthia) Moore. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, including Celeste, the great-grandchild closest to his heart. Celeste never fell for his legendary “Jedi mind tricks,” but she did produce his only great-great-grandchild. Last, but not least, Pete is survived by his furry companion, Fluffy.

Pete honorably served his country in the United States Army, forming lifelong while patrolling what was widely referred to as the Berlin Wall during his assignment with the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. He worked for General Motors for 30 years before retiring. He had a passion for cars. He loved to travel, make bad jokes, listen to Bluegrass music, and fish. He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting and archery. Pete also loved watching the Three Stooges, W. C. Fields, war movies, boxing, and wrestling.

A funeral Mass in his honor will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Church, where he was a member for nearly 50 years. Contributions in his honor may be made to Immaculate Conception Church (434 Western Ave., Toledo, OH 43609), Metroparks Toledo (5100 W. Central Ave., Toledo, OH 43615), or any animal welfare organization.
