Oren Lavon Nichols, affectionately known to many as "Von" or "Pops," passed away on June 13, 2025, peacefully in his home in Holland, OH at 84 years old. Born on September 5, 1940, in Holly Bluff, MS, Oren lived a life richly woven with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Oren earned his reputation as a skilled Civil Engineer and Surveyor for the Charles E. Raines Company, where his dedication and expertise made a significant impact. His intelligence was matched only by his warm heart and engaging sense of humor, traits that won him many friends and the profound affection of his family.
Those who knew him will always remember his lovable singing, often bursting into a joyous song at any moment's notice, filling their lives with melody and cheer. His knack for telling dad jokes brought laughter to many gatherings, and he had a unique gift for finding joy in the simplest of things, whether it was on family vacations or during road trips filled with shared stories and cherished memories. His passions extended beyond work, as he found pleasure in hunting and fishing during his early years and took immense pride in coaching hockey for his son.
Oren's devotion to his family was evident in everything he did. He cherished being the best babysitter for his grandchildren and took great pride in raising an amazing family, which remained one of his proudest accomplishments. The love he shared with his beloved wife, Sue Nichols, whom he spent 39 and a half happy years with, was the foundation of a life rich in love and warmth.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, and daughters: Dreama (Manny) Sanchez, Rebecca (Bryan) Zulewski, Michele (Greg) Stuckey, and Julie (Daniel) Arnold. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings, Janice (Gene) Evans, Barbara (Larry) Clegg, and Phil (Sharon) Nichols. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Sharday, Courtney, Lauren, Jack, Benjamin, and Madeline, as well as his great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Arabella.
Those left behind will deeply miss the warm conversations that brightened every family gathering, the kindness etched in his character, and the gentle yet stubborn spirit that touched their lives.
Oren is reunited in spirit with his beloved mother, Frances "Juanita" Nichols; father, James "Oren" Nichols; son, David Poage; and sister, Evelyn Gayle Madaffer.
