Michael B. Kelly, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on May 15, 2026, in Perrysburg, Ohio. Born on November 20, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio. Mike's life was a testament to resilience, love, and faith.
Mike was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1960, and received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Toledo. His education continued through his insatiable love of reading - he often boasted about how many books he had borrowed from the library and was always ready to recommend the next title. Mike saw himself as a teacher and would happily share his wisdom with anyone who was ready to learn. He was proud of his Irish heritage and taught his children to appreciate their birthright as descendants of the "princely O'Kellys". He had a lifelong love of music, whether singing in his high school glee club or listening to the Gaithers playing bluegrass tunes, and in younger years spent many Saturday nights dancing with friends.
Throughout his life, Mike faced battles that many could only imagine. Those closest to him understood the crosses he bore. His kindness and caring nature, however, never faltered. A deeply spiritual person, Mike's lifelong search for meaning ultimately took him back to his Catholic roots, and in his final years he found great solace in the faith that welcomed him home.
Mike's children were undeniably the pride and joy of his life. He often spoke with warmth and admiration about his daughters Melissa Kelly Jacobs, Sarah J. Smith and her husband Marty, and Lynn Brewer and her husband Matthew. His heart expanded further with the presence of grandchildren: Joe, Elly, and Scott Jacobs; Jacob Smith and his wife Julia, Lilly Smith, Sarah E. Graham and her husband Hunter; and Tess, Timothy, and Tricia Brewer; along with great-grandchildren—Azlyn, Elodi, Iris, Lincoln, Everly, and Hudson.
Mike was devoted to his longtime friend, Sylvia Fortney, whose steadfast presence offered comfort and companionship. Mike’s extended family and friends also mourn his passing, each holding cherished memories of a man who shared "God's grace, favor, and blessings" with every farewell.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Timothy J. Kelly; his first wife, Laura J. (Stimac) Kelly; his two brothers, Ed and Al Kelly; and his sisters Mary Flahie and Irene Kelly (Sr. Brigid, SND). Their memories live on in the hearts of those he loved so deeply.Michael B. Kelly’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and deep familial devotion. He will be profoundly missed, forever remembered, and eternally celebrated by all who were blessed to know him. May he rest in peace.
