Listen to Obituary

Merl "Ed" Webb Jr. peacefully passed away Friday, August 21, 2026 at Hospice of NW Ohio. He had battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia for 21 months, and was recently diagnosed with Myeloid Sarcoma. Ed was born June 23, 1966 to Sharon K. Hamlin nee Walter and Merl E. Webb Sr. in Bowling Green, Ohio. He grew up in North Baltimore, Ohio before moving to Perrysburg Township, Ohio, where he graduated from Rossford High School. On June 16, 2006, Ed married the absolute love of his life, Shelly M. Sumner. Together, they blended their families into one. Ed had profound love for their three children and cherished every moment spent with them.

Ed worked as a lumberjack for several years, before working at Jeep until his retirement in 2025 after 31 1/2 years. In his off time, he coached little league baseball in the Trilby Baseball League and also coached for the little league football team, the Warriors, in the Washington Local School system.

Ed loved life and, most of all, the experiences and people who made it meaningful. Throughout their 21 years together, Ed and Shelly enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson Tri Glide (affectionately known as Charlotte), camping, and going on many vacations. Whether it was hitting the open road, smoking a cigar, or simply sharing a meal around the dinner table, Ed loved bringing people together. A wonderful example of this is the Sylvania Moose Riders, which Ed founded in 2021. Ed also had a remarkable gift for making everyone around him laugh, often with an unforgettable one-liner delivered at exactly the right moment. His stories, laughter, and quick wit were a big part of who he was, and the joy he brought to those around him will be deeply missed and forever fondly remembered.

In addition to his parents, Ed was proceeded in death by his brothers, Mark Webb and Joseph Zuniga; and his grandson Carson Edward Sauerwein. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shelly M. Webb; children, Amber (Todd) Sauerwein, Ryan Webb, and Trevor Sumner-Benore; grandchildren, Cashton Jacob Sauerwein and Everleigh Grace Benore; brother, Harry (Jennifer) Hiler, Jr; In-Laws, Debra and Ronnie Sumner; Brother-in-law, Steven (Megan) Sumner; Sisters-in-law, Stacy Sumner and Kristen Zuniga; along with many nieces and nephews, especially Colbrin H. and Hank J. Sumner.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, from 11am to 3pm at Newcomer West Sylvania Chapel 3655 King Rd., Toledo, Ohio 43617. Funeral Services will be held at 3pm. At the conclusion of the service, a motorcycle procession will lead friends and family to the Celebration of Ed's life held at the Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579, 6072 Main St., Sylvania, Ohio.
