Melva Jean Blunk

Melva Jean Blunk, age 79 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on January 31, 2026. She was born on January 12, 1947 in Toledo, where she also spent her final days surrounded by loved ones.

Melva was a woman impossible to overlook. Completely full of life and chaotic energy, with an eye for beauty, a flirtatious spirit and an unapologetic shopaholic. She carried herself with a sparkle & fire that never faded. She loved being on the move and would go to the mall or library to explore and meet people. She had a love for collecting angels and crafting jewelry, often crafting bracelets and necklaces. She was also a devoted crocheter. She was rarely seen without her signature style: jewelry from head to toe: at least five rings on her hands every day, crazy pants, the freshest shoes on her feet, and a confidence that made every outfit her own. She followed her curiosity and lived with momentum. She will be deeply missed and always be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

On March 29, 1969, she married the love of her life, John E. Blunk, in Monroe, Michigan. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, as they shared their lives together. Melva's devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents Charles Hess & Lucille Hess along with her beloved husband, John Earl Blunk.

She is survived by her children: John Earl Blunk II, Connie Sue Blunk, Charles Andrew (Bobbi) Blunk, and Christina Jo (Kipp) Saam.

She leaves behind a large and loving group of grandchildren: Blake, Bronx (Skylar Pendleton), and Breydon Blunk. Jessiah, Jeremiah (Hayley), and Jasmine Trevino. Gabrielle Garner, Caitlyn, Brian, Nolan, Chelsea, Nicholas, Zachary, and Emmett Blunk. Alexandria (Panic) Culbertson, Seth and Trinity Waggoner.

She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Ezekiel James L., Deonte Rashad S., Dakari Legend S., Baby S, Jaiden Nuzum, Adrian Lofton, Cassius, Julius, and Artorius Trevino, Meadow Blunk, Jace, Oliver, and Marceline Culbertson, Rhilynn Waggoner, Genevieve Best, Mason Waggoner, Greyson and Sage Douglas.

A visitation to celebrate Melva's life will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Tontogany Cemetery at 1:30 PM, located at 18900 Tontogany Creek Rd, Bowling Green, OH 43402.
