Maxine S Wert

Maxine S. Wert, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 24, 2025, in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born on October 31, 1936, Maxine was a radiant soul whose kindness, soft-spoken demeanor, and unwavering positive attitude left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Maxine’s journey began in Toledo, where her roots would take her through various chapters of life. After graduating from Whitmer High School in 1954, she went on to earn an Associate’s degree from Stautzenberger College. Her professional journey was a testament to her dedication and work ethic. She served as a paralegal and later spent many fulfilling years in the payroll department for the Lucas County Payroll Department.

However, her professional life was just one aspect of who she was. Maxine cherished family above all else, and her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Pamela J. Koselke and her husband Matthew; her son, Charles L. Stiles and his wife Vicki; and her son, Kenneth J. Wert Jr. and his wife Nicole. Maxine’s legacy continues through her loving grandchildren: Aaron, Derek, Joe, Ryan, James, Nicole, Patricia, Nickolas, Nathan, and Kendra, alongside her 14 great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy. She is remembered dearly by her sister, Lynda Costelli, and her husband Jerry, who will carry forth her memory. The warmth of her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those she left behind.

Maxine found solace and happiness in a variety of hobbies. She relished the thrill of playing Bingo and cards, loved visiting the Senior Center, and enjoyed spending her time immersed in puzzles and reading. Her passion for cross stitch showed her artistic side, while her love for taking bus trips to different states illustrated her adventurous spirit.

Maxine's life was filled with travel and exploration. She took joy in journeying to new places and embraced every opportunity to experience the world around her.

Maxine was preceded in death by her father, Earl Birr; her mother, Harriet Bach; her husband, Kenneth Wert Sr.; her brother, Earl Birr Jr.; and her sister, Delcie Geer. Their love and guidance shaped her into the beautiful woman she became.

As we honor Maxine’s memory, we invite those who knew her to join us in celebrating her life. A memorial gathering will take place on August 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623.

Maxine S. Wert will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will continue to inspire all of us.
