Maureen May Mullins, a radiant soul whose warmth and joy touched everyone around her, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on February 24, 1955, in Bedford, Michigan, Maureen's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an insatiable thirst for adventure.
From her earliest days, Maureen embraced life with a spirit full of sunshine, filling every home she entered with laughter and joy. An avid lover of horses, she found freedom and solace in their presence, reflecting her boundless connection to the natural world. Her love for western shows and icons like John Wayne, Chuck Norris, and George Strait painted a portrait of a woman who cherished the rugged, spirited tales of resilience and courage.
Maureen's love of travel was legendary within her family and friends. She traveled to 35 of the 50 states in the U.S., often journeying by car from Arizona to Colorado, crafting unforgettable cross-country adventures that enriched her soul. Her farthest trip took her all the way to Australia with her son Chris (as a graduation gift), was a testament to her adventurous spirit and desire to explore the world beyond familiar borders.
Her proudest accomplishments were deeply intertwined with family. Maureen was a devoted mother to her nine beautiful children—Richard Mullins, Darla (Mark) Durand, Christopher (Samantha) Mullins, Missy, Faith, Isaac, Sarina, and Karisa Mullins. Her heart extended graciously to her beloved grandchildren—Victoria, Cheyenne, Hunter, and Marlee Durand—who brought immense joy into her life. She was married to the love of her life for over 50 cherished years, sharing a bond that inspired all who knew them. Though her beloved husband, Ernest “Crazy Ernie” Mullins, preceded her in death on May 14, 2025, their love story remains a beacon of enduring devotion.
In addition to her family, Maureen’s circle included her loving sisters Laura Herron and Judy (Mike) Brunt, as well as a host of extended family and friends who were fortunate to know her generous spirit. She was also predeceased by her son Dorian Mullins, her parents Dale and Geraldine Herron, and sisters Kathy Gibson and Theresa Hill, whose memories she carried dearly in her heart.
Beyond her family and personal pursuits, Maureen dedicated herself to making a difference through her volunteer work. She was a compassionate volunteer with the Adopt America Network and a key figure with Riders Unlimited, where she served as Program Director. Her commitment to helping others, especially in creating family and healing through adoption and equine therapy, reflected the depth of her kindness and strength of character.
Maureen May Mullins will be remembered as a beacon of light—a woman whose laughter was infectious, whose spirit was indomitable, and whose heart was boundless in love. Her journey through life was marked not just by the places she visited or the hobbies she cherished, but by the profound connections she nurtured and the joy she spread. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, adventure, and grace—a legacy that will forever shine in the hearts of all who knew her. Maureen will be laid to rest with her loving husband Ernie and beloved son Dorian at the Toledo Memorial Park at a date to be determined.
