Matthew David Vitek, cherished son, devoted father, and beloved family member, passed away on June 30, 2026, in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born January 20, 1973, in Toledo, Matthew’s life was deeply rooted in the community and among the family who meant so much to him.
Throughout his 53 years, Matthew touched the lives of many with his humor, gentle spirit, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He will be fondly remembered for the quiet strength and kindness he shared with his loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Matthew took great pride in his faith and his love for God.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Denny and Shirley Butz, who nurtured and guided him throughout his life. His strong bonds with his siblings were a constant source of support and joy: his daughter, Hannah Vitek; brothers Rodney Vitek (and sister-in-law Rachel), Michael Vitek, and Courtney Butz; sisters Tina Vitek, Shari Vitek-Massingale, and Bridgitte Perry (Matt); as well as his dear aunt, Pam Wilburn. Each of these relationships was a testament to Matthew’s genuine nature and deep capacity for connection. His role as a father to Hannah was one of great pride and fulfillment.
Matthew’s journey was one of close-knit family ties, enduring friendships, and a life lived with humility and care. His presence will be sorely missed, yet his memory remains a source of comfort and inspiration for those who survive him.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday July 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday July 4, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM.
Though Matthew’s time with us ended too soon, the legacy of his love, dedication, and character will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, remembered always for the difference he made in the lives of those around him.
