He was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose unwavering spirit and determination left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Matt owned and managed his own business specializing in the installation of doors and windows. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to his work until health complications made it impossible for him to continue. Throughout his years of struggle with serious health issues, including organ failure and autoimmune complications, Matt fought harder than most. His resilience was not rooted in the ease of life but in his profound love for his family—his primary motivation to keep going even in the face of adversity.
In his everyday life, Matt was an enthusiastic Ohio State fan who found joy in the little things—building Lego masterpieces, tuning up his beloved classic Chevy Blazer, and enjoying the great outdoors through camping, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. He had a passion for tending to his plants, which brought him joy and solace during his difficult times.
Matt’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristal L. Graves, who stood beside him as his steadfast partner, caregiver, and advocate. Her dedication to Matt's care was unparalleled; she selflessly handled medical tasks often without formal training to ensure he had the best quality of life possible. Their son, Jayden T. Graves, who had a deep desire to support his father and follow in Matt's footsteps in the window and door installation business. Matt often expressed pride in Jayden, recognizing his hard work and the strong values he inherited from both parents.
A close-knit family, Matt leaves behind his mother, Felicia (Richard) Hart; his sister, Rebecca (Christopher) Prowse; his stepbrothers—Brian Lindhorst, Greg (Renee) Hart, and Steven (Margo Stephanie) Hart; brother-in-law, Casey (Candice) Lewis; and his mother-in-law, Chris Lewis, lovingly referred to as the "crazy lady of the lake." He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his cherished dogs, Peanut, Buster, and Rhymes, who provided companionship and joy. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas S. Graves, and father-in-law, Steve Lewis, as well as his beloved dogs, TKO, Happy, and Maddy.
Matt's absence will be profoundly felt by those who loved him. A gentle soul with an enduring spirit, he exemplified what it meant to fight with grace and love. His memory will live on through the strength of his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
