Mary M. LeVally, age 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2026, with her husband by her side.
Born on June 12, 1943, in Harbor View, Ohio, Mary was the daughter of Ellis “Mack” and Gertrude (Savage) Burkett. She graduated from Clay High School in 1961 and held the distinction of being the first in her family to graduate, an accomplishment that reflected her determination and quiet strength.
Mary built a life centered on both hard work and deep devotion to those she loved. She worked as an insurance agent for Brighton Insurance and later for Ebright Insurance. She also spent many years in the Medical Records department at Toledo Hospital, where she remained until her retirement in 1995. Through the years, she gave of herself faithfully, both in her work and in the way she cared for her family.
At the heart of Mary’s life was her family. She was a remarkable wife, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her children and grandchildren. She shared a loving life with her husband of 65 years, William C. LeVally. Together, they raised their family and created a circle of love that continued to grow across generations. She is survived by her husband, William; her daughter, Carrie Pinski; and her son, William E. (Lori) LeVally. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Nick) Pierson, JoLynn (Nick) Kruzel, Tara
(Corey) Dimon, Mark (Cheynne Cummings) Pinski, and William M. LeVally, as well as her great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "G.G.", Gavin, Madison, Olivia, Tyler, Lilly, Braxton, Andrew, Grantly, Ava, Emily, Vivi, and Holland. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Clara Cousino, June Goins, and Carol Hughes; her brothers, Frank Burkett and Thomas Burkett; and her sister-in-law, Vickie (Jim) Chytil. The love she poured into her family will remain one of her most enduring gifts.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis “Mack” and Gertrude Burkett; by her son-in-law, Mark Pinski; and by her brothers, Richard Burkett, George Burkett, and Mack Burkett.
She found joy in the simple and beautiful things of life. At her beloved home on Dana Lake in Wetmore, Michigan, Mary became a mother to hundreds of hummingbirds, delighting in their presence season after season. She loved sewing and quilting, and one of the most tender expressions of her love was the quilt she made for every grandchild and great-grandchild. She also enjoyed baking and cooking, filling her home with warmth in every sense. In her younger days, she loved ice skating and bowling. Over the years, she treasured traveling with her family while her children were young, and later enjoyed traveling with her husband. She loved fishing, enjoying nature, berry picking, and bird watching in the great Upper Peninsula, where she felt especially at home in the beauty of the outdoors.
Mary was a faithful Christian and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and Trilby United Methodist Church. Her faith was part of the steady foundation of her life, reflected in her devotion, generosity, and care for others.
She will also be remembered for her unmistakable spirit. Mary was known for her sass and for being a professional bird flipper, a playful part of her personality that brought laughter to those who knew and loved her. That spark, along with her warmth, strength, and fierce love for her family, will be dearly missed.
Mary’s life was one of commitment, humor, faith, and love. She leaves behind a family shaped by her care, comforted by her memory, and grateful for the many ways she made life richer and more beautiful.
Those wishing to give in Mary's memory are asked to consider The American Cancer Society.
