Mary Jo Fisher, age 84, of Waterville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Hospice of NWO in Perrysburg. She was born on December 29, 1941, in Defiance, OH to Francis and Helen (Cordray) Schwab. Mary Jo was a Registered Nurse with St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and later helped establish the Utilization Review Department pilot program, which was later adopted by the Medicare program and hospitals across the country.
She retired after decades of devoted nursing service, caring for every patient with genuine kindness and compassion. Mary Jo loved the Lord with all her heart. She cherished people deeply and always looked forward to her Bible studies—especially the Friday morning young ladies’ group. She had a gift for bringing joy wherever she went, greeting everyone with a radiant smile and a warm hug. Her presence lit up every room.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was also preceded in death by her husband, James Fisher; and siblings, Frank Schwab and Susie Wrede. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Fisher, Nancy (Timothy) Stopp and Christine Fisher; grandchildren, Luke (Kelsey) Stopp, Delani (Louie) Vettel and Chase (Jessica) Stopp; and great grandchildren, Coleman, Elijah, Henry, Killian, Piper Lincoln and Penelope.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, March 22nd from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin on Monday, March 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, OH.
