Mary Helen Smith

Mary Helen Smith, age 77, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026.

Born in Toledo to Casimer and Alice Stachowiak, Mary was a lifelong resident of the area. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; siblings, Barbara Litner, Betty Tressler, Carl Stachowiak, Rosanne Foxwell, and Frank Stachowiak; her husband, Larry Smith; daughter, Fae Kaminski; and son, Chad Smith. Mary leaves behind those who will forever cherish her memory, including her siblings, Katherine Ellis, John Stachowiak, and Patricia Zwayer; her grandson, Brandon Murry; granddaughter, Summer Murry; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary attended Rogers High School and went on to make meaningful contributions throughout her life and career. She was actively involved in helping to create policies for the Veterans Administration, work she took great pride in and which reflected her dedication to serving others. In her free time, Mary enjoyed garage sales, shopping, and putting her many creative talents to use. She was exceptionally crafty and skilled, always finding ways to create, improve, and make things her own. 

Known for her strength, determination, and outspoken nature, Mary never hesitated to share her thoughts and opinions. Her strong-minded spirit and stubborn streak were among the many qualities that made her unique and unforgettable. While those traits often kept life interesting, they are characteristics her family and friends will dearly miss.

Mary's legacy lives on through the family she loved and the countless memories she leaves behind. She will be remembered for her resilience, creativity, independence, and the deep love she had for those closest to her.

Mary will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
