Mary Elizabeth “BaBa” Billups passed away February 24, 2026.
She was born August 14, 1936 in Oxford, Mississippi to parents Fred Webb and Mildred (Wiley) Webb. She was also welcomed by her older brother Fred Jr. who called her BaBa and that nickname was with her all of her life. Both her parents and brother have pre-deceased her. Her family relocated to Toledo, Ohio when she was a young child where she grew up “out Stickney”. She attended Spring Elementary and graduated from Woodward High School.
She met and married her first husband Jimmy Pirtle, Jr shortly after graduation. From that union three children were born. James III, JaTaun and Kelly. After his passing in 1967 she met Jim Billups Jr and they were married for over 50 years until his passing in 2024. While being his caregiver after his stroke, she also made sure to visit her son Jamie during his illness until his passing 12 years ago.
She worked for Rossford Ordinance and then Prestolite for many years before retiring. After retiring she worked at TRA for several years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed all kinds of crafting such as crocheting, knitting, quilting, stain glass and ceramics with a lot of her skills learned while attending classes at the Chrysler Training Center with her daughter. She was an avid book reader of romance novels and mysteries and would go to the public library regularly for books and to research our family history. She loved watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, Lets make a Deal and The Price is Right.
Mary and Jim enjoyed traveling, especially the yearly trips with her children and grandchildren to Myrtle Beach or Florida. She was an awesome cook in the kitchen. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas were extra special holidays because she made her homemade monkey bread rolls along with her other dishes we all looked forward to.
She leaves behind to carry on her legacy Daughter, JaTaun and husband Larry; son, Kelly and wife Jodi. Grandchildren, Jasmine (Duane), Mikoya, RD, James IV (Ariel), Kyle, Dana, Simone(Selena), Dominique and Danielle (Tom). Great Grandchildren, Taelor, Deshawn, Tierra, Senayi, Donovan, Pierre, Robin, Jaimeson, Mataeo, Fallon and Cali. And one Great Great Grandson, Roland. She will also be missed by several cousins, in laws, other family and friends.
The family would like to especially thank the nurses and physicians at Toledo Hospital, 6th floor who cared for her. And her care team from Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
