Marty Naufel

Marty Naufel, a beloved member of his community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on December 17, 1964, in Sandusky, Ohio, Marty brought joy and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Marty's career spanned various roles, each showcasing his vibrant personality and work ethic. He served as an usher for the University of Notre Dame for over 20 years, a position that allowed him to share his passion for sports and connect with fans. In addition, he bartended at the Beer Barrel in Put-in-Bay for many years, known for his warm demeanor and engaging conversations. Marty was also a skilled truck driver, demonstrating his commitment to hard work throughout his career.

Education was important to Marty, and he graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sandusky in the class of 1983. He continued his studies at Bowling Green University, where he received a degree in education in 1998. Marty's dedication to learning served him well in his role as a committed coach for wrestling and football at Toledo Central Catholic and Oregon Clay High Schools, where he inspired countless young athletes.

Friends and family will remember Marty as an outgoing and generous person. His laughter was contagious, and he had a unique ability to brighten any room. He often ended conversations with the heartfelt phrase, "God Bless and Go Irish," embodying his love for Notre Dame Football and his deep faith.

Marty is survived by his brothers Mitch Naufel and his wife Mary, Mike Naufel and his wife Dee Dee, and Matt Naufel and his wife Nancy, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving extended family members. He is also remembered fondly by his three rescue cats, Miracle, Paddy, and Scary Cat, who brought him much joy.

Marty was preceded in death by his father Ed Naufel, his mother Lucy Naufel, and his brother Mark Naufel. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family plains to host a memorial service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky, Ohio.  Services are pending at this time.
