Listen to Obituary

Marilyn L. Stebbins, age 91, a longtime resident of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in her home. She was born October 27, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to the late John and Hazel (Dye) Troyer. Marilyn graduated from Scott High School, Class of 1953. Not long after high school, she married the love of her life, Stanley Van Pelt and together they raised a family of four children in a home filled with laughter, love, warmth and unforgettable memories.

Marilyn trained to become a Nurses Aid and began her professional career caring for the many residents of the former Golden Haven Nursing Home in West Toledo. After many years there, she continued her nursing support at Heartland of Perrysburg. Marilyn retired after more than 30 years of service at the age of 70.

Early married life kept Marilyn busy with her kids. Family celebrations and holidays were filled with good food and great stories recalling special memories. She was a wonderful cook, and Marilyn cooked for an army so there was always plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. Some of her non-home cooked favorite foods included a simple Hamburger or Big Mac from McDonalds, where she often took her kids for secret trips making them each feel special.

When Marilyn wasn't expecting it, she met the second love of her life, Fred Stebbins. She and Fred developed a friendship that quickly turned into a marriage filled with love and laughter. They spent many years together creating another lifetime of memories.

Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors whether it was boating with her family and friends or taking care of her yard. She kept busy all the time with building up her Doll Collection, taking care of her constant companion, her dog, "Sparkle", doing crafts or shopping for holiday treasures. Marilyn kept her mind sharp and her hands moving playing Bunko, Solitaire, Bingo and working through Hide-n-Seek books. But Marilyn's greatest treasure was her family. They were her pride and joy and the time spent together meant the world to her. Marilyn will be remembered by all her knew her for her playful spirit, always embracing life to the fullest.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was also preceded in death by her loving husbands, Stanley Van Pelt and Fred Stebbins; grandson, John DeCant Jr.; great grandson, Haden DeCant and son-in-law, Rick Grycza. She is survived by her loving children, Deborah (John) DeCant, Stanley (Sandra) Van Pelt II, Cynthia Bentley and Rebecca Grycza; sister, Vivian (Robert) Lardinais; grandchildren, John Jr., Robyn (Jessica), Jennifer, Alysia (Thomas), Angela (Pedro), Keith, Richard, Michelle (Mathias), Joseph (Stephanie), Stanley III, Amanda and Jenna; stepchildren, Lena, Lisa, Michael and Steven; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300), with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
