Marilyn Shipman, affectionately known as "Nana," was born on December 20, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan. She embarked on a journey that intertwined her love for education, family, and adventure, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. Marilyn's remarkable career in education spanned through the cherished years of teaching kindergarten, first, second, and third grades within the Monroe Public School System. Even after her retirement in 2002, her commitment to nurturing young minds continued as she offered her expertise through tutoring, a testament to her unwavering dedication to the growth of children.

A proud graduate of Wayne High School followed by Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education, Marilyn's academic pursuits were deeply rooted in her philosophy of lifelong learning. Her students were always more than just learners; they became part of her extended family. Known for her loving, caring, and generous spirit, Marilyn was a beacon of hard work and adventure, traits that endeared her to many.

Beyond her classroom, Marilyn's life was filled with passions that spanned from the garden to gathering friends and family in celebration. Her love for children was apparent not only in her profession but also in her personal endeavors; she delighted in reading to them, fostering their imagination and nurturing their spirits. Gardening brought her joy, while hosting gatherings allowed her to connect with those dear to her heart. Her love for shopping was matched only by her adventurous spirit, which led her and her devoted husband, James David Shipman, on journeys around the world. From the historic lanes of England to the romantic vistas of Italy, Marilyn's travels paint a vibrant picture of her zest for life.

As a dynamic quilter, she expressively merged artistry with craftsmanship, creating pieces that served not only as decorative art but also as warm embraces for those she loved. Photography became another avenue for her creativity, allowing her to capture the beauty of her travels and the essence of her beloved family gatherings.

Marilyn’s passing on November 22, 2025, leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of twenty years, James David Shipman, and her beloved children, Andrea DeBagio and David (Shelia) DeBagio. Her siblings, William Shillaire and Carol George, along with her cherished grandchildren, Aneisia and Ariana, and her great-granddaughter, Alaya, carry her legacy forward. Marilyn also embraced her role as a stepmother and stepgrandmother to James Shipman and Jeanette Scheller, and her step-grandchildren, Miracle (Patrick) Wickenheiser, Journee (Garrett) Gautz, Chase Mason, and Anastasia Scheller, as well as step great-grandchildren, Clarisse and Luna.

Preceding her in death were her loving parents, William and Frieda Shillaire. Marilyn's proudest accomplishment remains her family—a testament to her loving spirit and profound impact on all who knew her.
