Listen to Obituary

Marilyn Siegwarth Edwards, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.

Marilyn was born January 8, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio to Arnold and Gwendolyn Horstmann. She graduated from North High School. As a teenager she was advised to have a career in the church and that is exactly what she did. She attended Elocution training, learning the skills of articulation and poise that shaped her character as a confident woman who expressed values of kindness, respect, and inclusion. She continued her education at Wittenberg University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Religious Education.

Marilyn married Presbyterian Minister Carl Siegwarth, Jr. June 7, 1952. They were ministers and leaders in the Saxonburg Presbyterian Church (Saxonburg, PA), The First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Ohio, The First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, Ohio, and The Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Kettering Ohio. Marilyn was always a leader in these Presbyterian Churches and was active in groups, clubs, and outreach programs. She was engaged with the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), the oldest women’s organization in the United States which works to enhance women’s education through scholarships. Together, she and Carl raised three children and enjoyed camping across the United States’ National Parks. Marilyn led by example, teaching her children to live the Gospel in her words, “Look at the situation to see what needs to be done, and do it.” Carl preceded her in death in 1989.

Marilyn married Presbyterian Minister Robert Edwards, Jr. in 1990. They were leaders in The Fairmont Presbyterian Church and The Bellbrook Presbyterian Church in Bellbrook, Ohio. Together, they began and led Mission trips. Marilyn assisted dentists on a Medical Mission trip to Costa Rica. Marilyn was the driving force in connecting the Fairmont Presbyterian Church with the Presbyterian Church in Ghana to build new and safe drinking wells, a school, and a medical clinic. The work they began continues to thrive in Ghana bringing basic human needs to the people of this region and is Marilyn’s proudest accomplishment. In addition to traveling as a missionary, Marilyn enjoyed leisure travel through Scandinavian Countries, Europe, Africa, and the Panama Canal. Honoring her Dutch heritage she visited cousins in Holland. Bob preceded her in death in 2020.

Marilyn’s children; Debra (Dennis) Oberhauser, Mark (Lorrie) Siegwarth, Scot (Gretchen) Siegwarth and Bob’s children; Marsha (Eric) Vaughter, Robert III (Jennifer) Edwards, Melissa (James) Coon, remain to pass on her messages to their children: “Take the high road, say it nicely, don’t cross the line.” Marilyn’s grandchildren (6) and great grandchildren (5) will miss their ‘Bubba’; Sarah (Douglas) Mark with William, Alex, Greta, and Zachary (Megan) Oberhauser with Wyatt, and Katie (Les Hofheinz), Betsy (Jody) Siegwarth with Nate Spencer, and Max (Maddy) Siegwarth and Jack Siegwarth. Between both smiles and tears, she will remain in our hearts with love and pride.
