Marie Kopf, born on October 19, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, left this world peacefully on January 23, 2026, in Perrysburg, Ohio. She was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Marie was blessed with a strong will and a lovingly stubborn spirit, coupled with a kindness that could light up any room. Her realistic and forthright nature earned her the respect of many, and her bravery—especially after the loss of her beloved husband, Richard Kopf, when she was fifty—demonstrated her resilience.
A proud child of immigrant parents, Marie carved out a fulfilling career as Parish Secretary at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 20 years, which followed her time as a Girl Scout leader and working in the AV room, library, and playground. Her faith played an essential role in her life. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and held deep connections to her community and church.
Marie found joy in many pursuits. Her love of sports was a hallmark of her weekends, as she spent countless Saturdays and Sundays cheering on teams and sharing passionate conversations about the games. An ardent fan of the University of Notre Dame, she embraced her inner competitive spirit while playing bridge and duplicate bridge, cherishing the time spent with her friends. A true lover of life, she enjoyed lounging at a beach or the pool and having coffee on the porch, chatting with neighbors. She was known for her love of a well-crafted Manhattan. Marie also loved to travel and visited Greece, Alaska, China, Mexico, as well as Las Vegas and Florida.
As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marie’s proudest accomplishments revolved around her family. She dedicated herself as a self-sufficient and loving mother to her children: Steven (Bert) Kopf, Karen (John) Porter, Jane Empey, and Mary Ann Buckley. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Vincent, Michael, Meredith, Christopher, Nicholas, Margaret, Catherine, Sara, Ashley, Mickey, Katie E., Katie B., Megan, and Ian, as well as her great-grandchildren: Darian, Karley, Clark, Khloe, Jordan, Emily, Lucy, Lillian, Magdalene, Leo, Willy, Juliet, Porter, Maxine, Jameson, Lincoln, Rylin, Alex, Emalyn, Deigo, Franco, Eleanor, Henry, Nora, Fay, and Julia. Each held a special place in her heart as she shared moments filled with joy and love.
Marie’s creativity shone brightly in her passions, from crafting clothes for her children to gardening, sewing, and her acute sense of style and fashion. She was an avid reader who kept her mind sharp and delighted in learning new things—like driving and skiing—later in life. Her journey on this earth has concluded, but Marie leaves behind loving memories and an indelible mark on those who were fortunate to know her. She made many friends while living at St. Clare Commons. She is reunited with her cherished husband, Richard Kopf, her sister, Elsie Ghesquiere, and her parents, Mary and John Gerhardinger.
