Marcus "Muff" Darrington

On July 24, 1972, the world was blessed with a remarkable soul – Marcus “Muff” Darrington. From the moment he arrived, he carried with him a light that could brighten even the darkest room. His laughter was contagious, his humor unforgettable, and his strength beyond measure. Muff wasn’t simply sent here to live – he was sent to inspire, to lift others up, and to show us what it truly means to fight life’s battles with grace, courage, and unwavering faith.

Marcus was known by many names, each on given with love by someone whose life he touched. Whether you knew him as Marc, Marcus, or Muff, one thing remained the same – you knew you were in the presence of someone extraordinary. He was the heartbeat of every gathering, the spark that turned ordinary moments into lasting memories. Wherever Muff went, joy followed. His friendships stood the test of time, a testament to the loyalty, generosity, and love he gave so freely.

Muff lived each day as though it were a precious gift, never allowing life’s hardships to define him. Even during his greatest challenges, he greeted others with a smile and a spirit that refused to be broken. His battle was long and difficult, but he carried it with remarkable strength, inspiring everyone who witnessed his journey. No matter what he was facing, his response was always the same:

“I’m good.”

And he truly meant it, because his goodness came from within. When his earthly fight was complete, he departed this life not in defeat, but in peace, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and unwavering faith while preparing a place for those he cherished.

Marcus leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Beatrice “Kitty” Patterson; his brothers, Maurice “Moe” Patterson and Keith “Butter” Waller; his beloved children, Diamond, Dequan, Meshonda, and his youngest son, Omarion “New” Darrington, who cared for his father tirelessly and selflessly with unwavering love and devotion. He also leaves his loving Aunt Emma Joleen, cherished niece, Mia Patterson; his loving sister, Carrie Darrington; and his devoted aunt and private nurse, Robin Williams, who compassionate care ensured his every medical need was met with dignity and love.

He will also be deeply missed by his favorite cousins, James Bragg, who always made sure he had whatever he needed, and Tamara Owens, who never failed to surprise him with thoughtful gifts and something delicious to eat. His faithful companion, Kirby, brought him comfort, companionship, and unconditional love throughout his journey. Along with countless extended family members and lifelong friends, they will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Waiting to welcome him into external glory are those who preceded in death: his beloved son, Jawuan Darrington; his father, Marcus Darrington, Jr.; and his grandfather, Marcus Darrington, Sr. Together they now rejoice as they welcome him home into everlasting peace.

Although our hearts ache with the pain of his absence, we find comfort in knowing that Muff’s spirit lives on in each of us. Every smile he inspired, every laugh he shared, every act of kindness he extended remains woven into the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him. His light will never fade. Whenever we think of him, we will remember that unforgettable smile, his infectious laughter, and the extraordinary way he made life brighter simply by being himself.
