Listen to Obituary

Linda Smidi, born on March 22, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, and a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on January 7, 2026. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her hard work and unwavering commitment to her family and business.

A determined and industrious woman, Linda owned and operated her own cleaning service, specializing in new construction and extending her care to a few fortunate families over the years. Her strong work ethic was matched only by her love for children, and she took great pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. Linda’s children adored playfully teasing her, often causing her to spiral into laughter, love, and sometimes a fit.  A testament to her joyful spirit and the warm home she created.

Linda cherished her grandchildren and adopted grandchildren, lovingly referred to as Grandma, Gummy, or Nana. The singular joy she experienced in their presence was one of her proudest accomplishments, along with the love and support she provided to her family. Her hobbies included fishing, feeding ducks, watching "Baywatch," enjoying the occasional beer, and playfully getting on the nerves of those she loved. These activities brought her much happiness and reflected her vibrant personality.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Gerard and Etta Gerard; her sisters, Pamela Gerard and Debbie Zahs and brother, James Stuard. She is survived by her loving son, Tim Smidi and his wife, Tammy; her daughter, Pamela Piddock and her husband, Darrald; her step-son, Richard Steele; grandsons Tim Smidi Jr., Devin Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Kyle Steele, Carl Steele; granddaughters Martha Shipley, Kaylena Johnson, Caitlinn Schaffer; and her partner Carlos Steele. She also leaves behind her brothers Garry Gerard and his wife, Karen, Joseph Gerard and Jonathan Gerard, as well as several great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; all who will carry her legacy forward.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Linda's remarkable life. A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania, 3655 King Road Toledo, OH, on January 16, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM, also at the same location. The graveside service will take place later that day at 12:30 PM at Springfield Township Cemetery in Springfield, OH.

Linda Smidi will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her tenacity, love, and the joyous moments she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
